Ready, set, cancel?

I ended up in the Medical Quick Clinic today with bronchitis and had to make a hard decision. My surgery is in a little over two weeks. I was given the option of taking oral steroids or getting a steroid shot to help my breathing. Steroids can interfere with healing so I was nervous about taking them in any form before surgery. But what was I supposed to do? I opted for the shot because it would go into my system faster and hopefully, be out of my system faster. Oral steroids take a little more time to build up in your system to get the job done and consequently, leave more slowly.
When I got home, I called my surgeon's nurse immediately to report the steroid shot. He said it would be alright. Any closer to the surgery date and we would have had to postpone. I hung up the phone. Half of me felt relieved, but the other half wished he'd said, "Oh no...we need to cancel and reschedule." Guess I'm still going through with it. Rats.
